What is the need of a container?

why there option create container in ad? think organizational unit sufficient. why need container for?

you apply few special settings @ domain level gpo not going restrict users normal work password policy, screensaver,wallpaper etc set standard organization, hence these gpo not have impact on container object inside normal functioning. if want lock down settings use ou apply gpo not container.
