Changing Date Macros within Word 2010

i creating mail merged letter with excel 2010 document containing start date , finish date within body of text. entering date on excel date, month year e.g. 3rd march, 2011. however, when in word 2010 inserts date ddmmyyyy e.g. 03/03/2011
there way stop , keep date month name i.e 3rd march, 2011? have researched on known search engine cannot seem find answers regarding matter.
not sure if need make changes in word or excel appreciate advise give me.

word merge reads underlying data, need add date formatting
switch mergefield - see
 
in case of fields ordinals need 2 mergefields 1
the day number ordinal other month , year.
