this not limited windows server thought best forum topic. have small domain setup few server 2012 standard , datacenter boxes(both physical , vm) , our file storage hosted on windows server 2012 standard.  looking easy use solution secure remote file access through web interface.  have small web interface users can login (preferably authenticating ad) , have access files on storage server control on can see folders. solutions have tried - ftps - ftp through firewall and/or load balancer nightmare prefer not deal with webdav - need able access files without mounting them owncloud - uses database , pain has rescan lot , have lot of files sharepoint - overly complex wanting , not mention has no ability access external files (using pageview webpart not work) i ideally have interface similar old windows home server interface.  have heard server 2012 essentials has similar experience running standard & datacenter not have ability install features(which seems short-sig

i made registry changes disable ssl v2 pci compliance on win 2008 server. rebooted , ie , win not "out" on nic. firefox working. adjusted registry (did not backup/restore. ugh.) , rebooted, same issue. removed nic driver not re-add properly, "disk". added 2nd nic , os hangs on installer. do!? tried booting run recover, doesn't fix issue. options other full reinstall? hardware dell t110 ii, running 32 bit. hi, thanks posting. have changed below registry entry? in registry editor, locate following registry key: hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\control\securityproviders \schannel\protocols\ssl 2.0\client add value\dword type\value data: 00000000 > rebooted , ie , win not "out" on nic. firefox working. what mean “would not out” on nic? any relevant error log can find form event viewer? please give feedback further troubleshooting. for more information please refer following ms articles: how disable pc

hello, forgive me new this.  have installed wsus 3.0 sp1 , thought had set correctly.  however, not receiving updates on clients , clients still show last status report of not yet reported.  have double checked gpos, server setup lbcdcsrvr:8530; have recreated selfupdate on port 80 2xs, once script deleted once manually followed stopping , starting update services on both server , client after ensuring anonymous authorization selected.  have used wuauclt.exe reset authorization, detect now, , report.  have checked security on registry keys.  able verify existence searching ie http://lbcdcsrvr/selfupdate/wuident.cab , receive download file close out of.  3 things seem raise concern:  1. when searching ie http://lbcdcsrvr:8530 receive "website declined webpage" http error 403 forbidden, website requires login."  2. event viewer on wsus server shows error 13042, self update not working.  , 3. update log on client shows 0x80244019  please resolving issue.  have been resear

i can't life of me figure out why login/policy/source info not being logged system or security event log. don't think matter of proper view, can't find info @ all... logging turned on in nps (local), properties. in fact, i've toggled off , on try , 'kick' working. when have user in child domain authenticate, shows ldap connection other server, no acutal policy info. for now, have authentication logging file in c:\windows\system32\logfiles, different thing event logging. this system upgrade (our first w2k8 woot!) 2003r2. did not encounter issue in testing. hi, i'm going mark question answered, glad continue troubleshooting if can provide data. thanks, -greg Windows Server  >  Network Access Protection

windows 10 pro technical preview build 9926 not allowing 33+ characters in broadcasting or hidden ssid when trying enter in new "network & internet" under settings > wi-fi. many router firmwares support broadcasting ssid's above standard 32 characters , windows 7 supports ssid's more 32 characters. in build 9926, putting ssid more 32 characters bring "invalid network name" error. users have ssid higher 32 characters can still enter same way in windows 7 going to: control panel > network , internet > network , sharing center > set new connection or network > manually connect wireless network. if ssid added way, "available networks" in new wi-fi panel update accordingly. would appreciated if 33+ character support added new network & internet panel in windows 10 if going main user interface users going experience. hi, in our company have microsoft dynamics server 8 network ports. @ moment 1 network port being used, time time connection clients server slow because traffic going trough 1 port. thats why want configure 2 ports on server traffic balanced between these ports. ip of server 10.0.xxx.5, , needs stay. can configure this? most nic vendors allow nic teaming bond multiple nics 1 logical interface.  these can configured in either load balancing/sharing or fault tolerant groups.  configuration needs done on network switch side well, in case cisco switches, need create etherchannel ports nics connected on switch. hi, we using hyper-v replication in our environment. i wondering if possible separate .hrl (hyper-v replication log) location (other set of disks), vhdx? also, if can tell me how can achieve that, great. thank you! i don't believe that's referring to. when replicate vm, .hrl file created each vhdx far can see. file contains data changes happened vhdx between replication passes. problem we're seeing creates twice amount of write ios on disk both write original vhdx , hrl file happening on same disk. impacting performance of vm io perspective saw process take 2 times longer replication enabled (which makes sense). if move hrl file location, potentially mitigate issue. i have set nap client , im still in testing, want use few computers apply to. im using nap via dhcp , set global security group called nap client computers. have wshv checks firewall. have created dhcp scope options have default user class point local dns server , dns domain name, , default network access protection point same dns servers , dns domain name of restricted.domain.local. have turned on nap in scope. have made group policy changed, , removed authenticated users security filtering , added nap client computers group created. group did not have members. when users started logging in, getting on restricted network, why has happened? there no members in security group, policy should not getting applied.   hi mattym84 ,   thanks posting here.   i think need add policies in order exclude , except reset member hosts affected nap enforcement if want restrict several computers testing purpose not all ：   design exception management strategy

i test 2012 essentials first time.  plan on having os on raid 1 , data either on raid 10 perc 6 or go storage spaces route.  1.  have bunch of data on raid 10 array in whs 2011 box.  can move array on 2012 box , keep data? assuming go storage spaces (for data) on 2012 box: 1.  if os flakes , needs reinstalled, storage spaces data still there after os reinstall? 2.  if mb dies, can move drives new system , not lose data? thanks, probably storage spaces better option, please research before make final determination. blog post (for windows 8, basics applicable windows server 2012, including essentials) offers decent overview of storage spaces. regarding questions: i don't know how array created, don't know if move easily. assume won't front. the blog post answers other 2 questions. note storage spaces new technology. pro, loath trust in new technologies, if offer significant advantages on existing familiar ones, because not of bugs have been worked out

hello - i have created two-tier pki uses offline root ca , enterprise ca joined domain. able auto-enroll test 2012r2 server without apparent problem. problem comes in when try tcp 636 on dcs using these certs. while see certs issued domain controller (one domain controller authentication, 1 kerberos authentication, , 1 directory email replication), see no cert being used on tcp 636 dc. when execute following command (which typically shows me certs on target, encrypted webserver or ldaps port), see following: "source: schannel - event id 36869 - ssl server credential's certificate not have private key information property attached it. occurs when certificate backed incorrectly , later restored. message can indicate certificate enrollment failure". the command using trigger is: openssl s_client -showcerts -connect mydc.example.com:636 the ssl certs brand new , looking @ each of them in mmc, have private key corresponds cert in question. thoughts appreciated.

i've created firewall rule on web server set allow port 80, 443 , 999.  rule works , can log in client computer.  want limit ips specific clients can connect.  on scope tab, under remote ip address, i've chosen these ip addresses option, added client ips, , applied.  connections fail.  used netstat confirm incoming request (foreign address) correct , local port 80.  idea why firewall blocking connections when set ip specific filter? looks found problem, netstat lying :)  ip netstat showed connecting port 80 not same 1 firewall saw, filtering wrong ips. thanks! hi guys have issue seems apply canon printers. print server server 2008 (not r2) , has around 100 printers on it. we have around 30 server 2008 (not r2) citrix servers install of our required print drivers on, connecting different models on print server.  we prompted isntall drivers once, users logging on able use printers withou issue.   if add new model of cannon printer print server, when users try use canon printers @ all, prompted install drivers, not have rights do.  this canon printers, not 1 added.  if rdp print server add printer again, prompted, when go install, no drivers being installed, possible inf file being updated.   i not understand way in client of print server knows driver has been changed.  which files compare ?  use oem.inf , oem.pnf file in windows inf directory? there whole list of printers in there. does number after oem e.g. oem27 need match between server , clients? why not happen hp printers ? i need find out why driver install prompt

there's upgrade path essentials, seems lesser version foundation based on specs, none foundation?? seems bit ill-thought-out?? we bought foundation because didn't need bigger more , considering high price other versions, good. have exceeded condition of license having more 15 users in domain. it's not detrimental since not shut down server violation, constant popup annoying. there should easy way upgrade license change next level version of server (standard). it's not hard thing - change license via upgrade , download , install missing components , settings. see lots of threads , nothing cash garb when companies this, since paid money 1 version , have pay full price next version though 1 watered down version restrictions. there way send feedback to the server development team? know there other ms products , tend @ least listen, i'm not seeing server teams. become bigger issue if can't upgrade 2012r2f 2016std in future either. looks can provide

i have gpo blocks usb/dvd drives.  have security filtering authenticated users. i want have except domain admins.  in delegation select domain admins , select advanced.  choose apply policy , check deny.  when try use usb device admin account still blocked.  if  irun group policy results wizard against both admin account , regular account policy being applied both.  i trying figure out what i doing wrong.  gpo linked sales -computer ou. if linked computer ou  - use computer or user configuration??? if computer configuration, cannot block based on user group membership... martin no not evil, if know doing: or bad gpos? , if bothers me - coke bottle design refreshment :)) restore forum design - user defined cascading style sheet!
