i'm sorry if dumb question, before go trying implement this, can tell me problems might encounter or if idea.  i'm trying setup test lab learn hyper-v.  here how i'm thinking of implementing current environment. install hyper-v on dedicated system intel i5 processor.  run hyper-v in workgroup no domain yet exists.  install windows server 2012 on virtual machine in hyper-v , promote domain controller.  since hyper-v system runs before dc available, can never part of domain correct?  mean if dc isn't booted , need log in hyper-v, won't authenticate because credentials can't verified, thinking correct?  possible?  know ideally should have hardware dc available that's not virtualized , have hyper-v join it, in environment, not possible. any input appreciated. you mean, things single-sign on; central gpo control; easy configuration centralized remote access, management, , control; ability configure security pass government-, finance-, , healthcare-gra

we noticed our wsus content folder growing out of control on master , downstream replicas.  the decision made delete in content folders on wsus servers , issue wsusutil.exe reset command on wsus servers change every patch unapproved on master server. everything worked great on master appears functioning fine downstream replicas stuck.  the cpu maxed on core , wsus running queries indefinately.  there absolutely nothing in wsus content folder on these replica servers , have not approved single patch after setting them unapproved.  what going on , how fix this? here running in sql on susdb: susdb.dbo.spresetstatemachineandreevaluate;1 query running susdb.dbo.spgetrevisioninfo;1 this query blocked first one susdb.dbo.spgetrevisionidlistforcache;1 this query blocked first one the downstream replicas not able sync master while going on now. how fix downstream replicas? running wsus patched on 2008 r2 both master , downstream servers.  the susdb running on sql 2008

hi all, first post here appologies in advance mistakes. my issue running server 2008 r2 works great. have been running windows deployment services long , there has been hicup cannot wrap head around. i have 2 lenovo laptops (1x thinkpad edge 14 & 1x thinkpad edge e420) seem having issues driver store wds. connect, , pull down image , install no dramas, issue is, when comes part search driver store drivers, miss display driver. 100% there not it.   both laptops have intel hd graphics different generations , can use same driver not go. lenovo has been no here am. can suggest ideas why not work? oh , have other lenovo laptops , desktops , grab drivers fine, these 2 models.   thanks in advance matt can verify device id's of display adapters match device id's listed in drivers imported? i know it's maybe stupid , simple question, @ least it'll tell whether drivers applicable video adapters. if checks out, reading log files might pinpoint right dir

  i have strange issue.  local administrator on terminal server able launch remote apps ts web page.   all roles (terminal services, tswebaccess, ts remote apps installed on same server.   i have added number of specific domain , local user groups rdp users group on server.  these users able connect server's desktop via rdp client unable launch remote apps.   when these users open remote apps login appears proceed expected, 'details' segmant of rdp client shows 2008 logon process normal 'preparing desktop etc' , cycles through 'logging off'.   after many hours , trying detailed on web still can't round issue, can help? try making these remote users administrators on server (i'm assuming right standard users) , check if problem recurs? wonder if uac settings causing this. no other ideas @ moment, sorry.   --subhashini Windows Server

tricky question pose.. i have 2 * 2tb drives in storage pool.  have 2 tb storage space assigned pool (lets call them , b).  have 2tb of mirrored storage across 4tb of drives.  well... if add third 2tb drive "c" to storage pool, how 2-way mirroring work now?  hope evenly mirror across each drive in pool ( 1tb mirrored across + b, 1tb across a+ c , 1tb across b + c) giving me 3tb of mirrored storage.  if work hope, server rebalance mirroring?  have used 1.8gb of storage time add in 3rd drive, there 0.2gb on each of morrored drives available.  when add in 3rd drive, if server not re-allocate, gain 0.4gb of storage (0.2gb a+c, 0.2gb b+c) leaving 1.4gb unusable. if not hoped, how make use of 3rd drive?  i assume 3rd drive useless in pool unless 3-way mirroring or add 4th drive? thanks,  mark. tricky question pose.. i have 2 * 2tb drives in storage pool.  have 2 tb storage space assigned pool (lets call them , b).  have 2tb of mirrored storage across 4tb of driv

hi all, i have 2 policies in terminal server ou.  1 "terminal servers policy" restricted "user configuration settings disabled".  gpo sets items such terminal server connections, profiles pathes, general policies such license server, session broker, etc.  loopback enabled , set replace.  security filter set "authenticated users". i second "terminal server remote desktop" , sets items such desktop icons, control panel lock-down, other lock down settings.  restricted "computer configuration settings disabled".  security filter set "ts desktop users". the terminal servers ou has block enheritance enabled.  see first policy applies , works.  second policy not apply.  user established remote desktop session sees everything.  when run group policy results, "terminal server remote desktop" not appear under applied, appears under denied inaccessible. i'm confused.  can give me suggestions i'm missing.? regards, t

okay guys, i've got weird problem.   i have win2k8 r2 server 2 six-core opterons, 32gb ram, sata raid 1 (160gb) os, , 1.8tb raid 6 sas array.  on sas array have 3 virtual servers clients connect to. im using vmware server 2.1. have symantec endpoint security 11 installed on win2k8 server backupexec 12.5. anyhoo, here's weirdness. whenever connect either external drive (be usb flash or hard drive or iscsi backup drive), raid 6 array drives light they're thinking hard , volume becomes temporarily unavailable. this happens minute , 20 seconds. , everything's fine.  the only error shows in event log seems corralate when :  vds basic provider error (code: 490@01010004).   any appreciated. that error code seems related windows 7 x64, iso mounting programs alcohol. have nothing installed on server.
