hi i have created shared drive on our file server , have set permissions allow users write, read , modify files, have revoked delete permission, haven't set deny, left delete section blank. now when user (user a) creats file, he/she can open/modify/move it, , user b,c etc cannot... when reinstate delete permission, issue goes away??i must of missed simple here, cannot put finger on it, any ideas? thanks, hi, above please noticed that: if user not have delete permission, he/she not able modify (equal delete + create) or rename file except file owner (owner has full control permission). in order prevent users deleting file mistake, can create backups or vss , train users avoiding such accident. deny or revoke delete permission not method on office related files. back issue, issue disappeared after reinstate permissions on folder, please compare permission settings (in properties - security - advanced) before , after reinstate - there must changed gived userb,c per

hi, at workplace, we're facing interesting situation. using work network environment can connect servers (windows 2000 server, windows 2003 server , windows 2008 server) using rdp without problem. can use rdp workstations administer systems, workstations being windows xp , windows 7 however, when using vpn tunnel home through cisco concentrator (3 different employees tried 3 different locations using 3 different computers), able connect windows 2000 , 2003 systems (and windows xp workstations matter) not windows 2008 server or windows 7 workstations. so question is, missing in network settings on systems make them not accept rdp connections coming outside? ipv6 setting or more illustrious altogether? know rdp works because can hook them when we're working on inside network, if they're in different subnet (10.10.x.0/8 vs 10.10.y.0/8). any light on issue appreciated. so, here's caused issue in our setup. might not same other setup, ymmv. we have redundan

i have 2008 server, , have uac enabled.  have drive (e:) members of adminsitrators group have access to, non-adminsitrators not have access to.  in windows 2003 without uac, had removed file/directory inheritable permissions drive @ e:\ level, except adminsitrators, , worked great.  however, 2008 , uac enabled, appears administrator rights no longer there when browsing, breaks.  when member of the administrators group opens windows explorer view e: drive, pop-up says "e:\ not accessible.  access denied.".  if grant users "list folder" , "read attributes" permissions on  e:\ "this folder only", can access e:\.  however, when a member of administrators group browses a subfolder of e:\, pop-up saying "you don't have permissions access folder.  click continue access folder.", , either fails or adds administrator folder's permissions, creates permissions mess. i thought putting of our administrators in seperate group, , giving group

running windows server essentials 2012 , windows 7 professional.  i added computers domain "\\myservername\connect".  all went well.  i went server dashboard, under devices , explicitly disabled workstation backup.  this wanted, don't provider backup workstations, train our users save directly server through mapped drives. the issue coming up, though workstation backup disabled, workstation still getting pop-up essentials connector backup failed.  is normal?  i under impression once backup shut off, not fail anymore, , therefore not message anymore.  also, there on server or workstation can check keep workstation getting error?  i can tell user nothing worry about, , give reasons why not have worry, prefer not have alert come up. in photo below, can see computer online, , backup status set not backup.  also, can see prompts "set backup computer" under tasks along right side. thanks input on how keep user seeing alert.  well,  i configured

we using terminal server 2008 with our .net application . when the user prints the matrix printer connected to a windows xp printing good ( local printer attached to machine and take remote access local resources printer ) but when the user prints something from machine with windows 7 printing goes wrong , the characters are wider and can not be read . we using printers epson tm u590 p lpt1 port. any suggestions? hi, please check printer driver on server being used redirected printer when connecting xp pc versus windows 7 pc.  may right-click on redirected printer on server, choosing printer properties, advanced tab. is using rd/ts easy print driver in both cases, or using rd/ts easy print in 1 case , different printer driver in other case? thanks. -tp Windows Server  > 

 i'm not sure right forum posting or not, applies installation , setup project working on, let me know if need post different forum.  second question of post 1 concerned with. i in process of setting 2 identical 2008 terminal servers in our corporate network.  one primary server 60 users (currently 20) use wyse s10 thin clients provided remote desktop experience.  the other server mirrored backup in case of primary server failure.  i have set failover clustering, dfs replication, , terminal services on both machines.  have installed identical set of application users use well.  both machines ibm system x3650 32gb ram , 6 1tb drives (configured 1 raid 0 1tb system drive , 1 raid 5 4tb storage drive). plan publish few apps tsremote app , ts web access hand full of people well.  my question 2 fold: 1) set (failover clustering, dfsr, , ts) right application, and 2) have users profiles, documents, etc. default 4tb storage drive , wondering if there easy way change default location as

we've got windows 2008 64bit server / windows xp pro client environment 6300 workstations, 200 servers , 900 printers.  upgraded of our 2008 servers r2.  seems after upgrade, our clients lost ability change or see of properties on of our network printers, duplex, second tray or staple option example.  seems have affected couple of dell models (5300 , 5310) couple of canon copier models (various).  sometimes, rebooting print server bring ability clients see options short while.  times doesn't.  we've been fighting couple months , don't know go. when log onto workstation domain admin, options there , match on server.  when log onto workstation user or local admin rights only, options gone / grayed out , show incorrectly.  example, looking @ options properties on driver on server, printer shows duplexer second 500 sheet tray.  looking @ same options properties on workstation logged in standard user or local admin, shows duplexer , second tray both unavailable or
