i'm not sure how background should add question.  i'll start short version , go there.  have new xp box connected wsus.  showing 249 required updates on wsus.  of had previous approvals, did not 70 updates offered pc.  did not want updates @ going new box put own group , removed approvals on updates computers.  so, there still 25  updates being offered pc.  when run report on needed updates box, 25 show "install" in report though updates have not been approved new group.  remainder of 249 needed listed "not approved" expected.  try keep them being offered, removed approvals on 249 updates shown box.  of updates show not approved in updates list still 25 show "install" in report new box.  have looked @ approvals on several (but not all) , verified there no approvals shown. what's causing these updates applied box when have no approvals?  can fix it? regards, dale well, figured out little bit more. updates being offered unexpectedly h

hello, this respect rodc setup in remote site, have installed rodc in remote site (without credential caching) administration done central site. also installed rodc pack kb944043 v5 on clients , windows 2003 servers, situation whenever nltest of client\server n remote site it still pointing the windows 2003 servers instead of rodc , later i set registry value (autositecoverage 0) fixed issue of 2003 servers nltest the the central 2008 servers writable dc's showing up. ideally should nltest show site \ dc client member of ?? as there no credential caching when rodc forwarding authentication requests writable dc there slow response in logon process provided wan up. -shravan  rodc's can communnicate rodc's 2008 or greater.  unless dc taxed , can't respond within given time frame (iirc several seconds) outside of own site.  guess isn't case you. there multiple tests within nltest return dc's, should able test specific site within domain using /si

hi we working on procedure restoring our systems further having powercut extends beyond support of our ups.  we have 2 domain controllers dc1 (physical) - dns, dhcp. have configured server (bios) boot automatically when power restored.  dc2 (virtual) - dns. when esx host boots (also boots automatically), server set boot first automatically. each servers primary dns set point @ other.  we trying point if experience powercut lasts few hours out of hours, once power restored , dc1 , dc2 have booted, providing automatic services have started, not need manually intervene , both dc's operational. at moment, when test process rebooting both dc's out of hours, after 10 minutes having restart dns service unable ping servers hostname , both dc's cannot see each other.  should happen? hi, if have understanding, doing these tests on test environments. so did export of virtual dc. right? i saying because long dcs starting , netlogon services running, not have d

hello,      i ask if somebody's there me:      i php developer stuttgart, germany.      in php web application want edit text files using php code. these files created once (by me), exist before php application used web user. my php code reads out text files , other text files' contents changed.   in developer's environment (windows xp, xampp) works fine. so i'm sure code ok.   but productive system ist windows server system (windows 2008 r2 , internet information services). and here doesn't work! text files' contents aren't changed.   i know on windows based webserver systems have change folders security settings (what mean: folders text files placed). must give iis system user (in past it's name iusr..., named otherwise) additional rights, can change folders content.    i did. doesn't work.   some years ago when used windows server 2003 solution worked. giving iusr right change folders content. it.

hi, planning migrate data , file share a 2003 server use file server to 2008r2. is possible set dfs replication and replicate them 2003 server new 2008r2 server? not sure if it's possible between these editions. and if dfs replication not available, second best going "xcopy" and "permcopy" comand copy data , file share? i checked several threads not quite sure of answer. any tips helpful. environment: single domain, osver. windows server 2003 sp1 ssmh hi, 1. dfsr between windows 2003 sp1 , windows 2008 r2 not supported. 2. permcopy not work on windows 2008 r2. export registry key: system\currentcontrolset\services\lanmanserver\shares and import target server if paths of shares not changed -- if paths changed, need midify registry key before import. 3. fsmt not option , dfsr not available, robocopy method migrate data. technet subscriber support in forum |if have feedback on our support, please contact tnmff@microsoft.com.

i spent weekend building server 1tb vm image of old server. i'm curious using windows software raid break anything. want mirror drive holds image.  when start warns if convert dynamic partition not able boot operation system partition. understand way hyperv , vm's shoudn't matter right ? thanks.   hi! yes, should able convert basic disk dynamic without modifying data stored on it. i make sure vm turned off before performing conversion operations on physical disk, keep turned off while synchronizing mirror first time. i've done myself few times and nothing bad ever happened. best way use existing virtual pc images have on windows server 2008 x32. can install hyper - v? the virtual pcapplication not supported on ws 2008. thanks in advnace. windows server 2008 x32 not , never support hyper-v. hyper-v runs on x64. if must stick x32, virtual pc 2007 service pack 1 run fine on windows server 2008. install virtual server 2005 latest version on windows server 2008 , use vmrcplus administer , interact it. if can't install vpc on 2008, there workaround. if seeing warning dialog says vpc isn't supported, ignore it. granted vpc on windows 2008 unsupported, doesn't mean won't work. means can't call microsoft - you'll have through forums. so, i'm answering how can use existing virtual pc images on windows 2008 server x32. if have option install windows 2008 server x64 , enable hyper-v role (requires compatible hardware - virtualization technology , execute disable bit), should migrate vhds vpc hyper-v. if want this, let know.

how debug qos? qos applied not working expected i have several remote locations (several class-c networks in 172.16.0.0/12 network)  i have datacenter @ 10.10.10.0/24 network i have https server in, 10.10.10.1 qos traffic, protocols, limiting 8 kb/s download, no dscp , configured limit downlaods remote 172.16.0.0/12 network. the qos configured using gpedit.msc local policy i have https server in, 10.10.10.99 no qos @ all, unlimited download speed allowed both https servers iis in win2008r2 patched i can download single test.zip file (anonymous auth)  at same speed, no matter server being used. i´ve teste appliying port number , 1 kbps limite, i´m download right @ more 20 kbps (ie, edge) , link 512 kbps satellite link, why important control traffic looks qos not being applied. far know, qos applied sessions, not session or ip, right?  i´ve created new qos using 1 kbps traffic , achieved 64kb/s download rate, delete , re-created policy.. no change. qos not being applied
