hi, instead of taking snapshot of hyper-v virtual machine can shutdown vm , copy .vhd/.vhdx file usb drive backup , turn on vm later. thanks the virtual disks contain 'state' of machine - critical part. what not have configuration - # of virtual processors, nic, mac address, etc.  perform backup create new vm using copied vhd. btw - snapshots / checkpoints are not backup.  way return point in time, such prior installing patch or upgrading application. if have hyper-v 2012 r2 can merge checkpoints live - using capability can create checkpoint, export usb, delete it.  vm running.  , script. brian ehlert http://itproctology.blogspot.com learn. apply. repeat. i have found strange issue. kb3125574 convenience update replaces vmxnet 3 nic adapter vmxnet 3 nic adapter #2 , removes static ip address information after install the update , the system rebooted. when update uninstalled, original nic adapter and ip address information restored. seems affect windows server 2008 r2 vmware vm's, have thousands in production , 75% use vmxnet 3 nic adapter. on systems intel pro/1000 nic, nic not replace disabled 10 seconds after logging on. on windows 7 enterprise clients (vm's, desktops, laptops), update works fine. update tested on windows 2008 r2 vm running on windows 10 hyper-v instance , worked fine. i have launched case microsoft premier support testing scenarios performed and waiting hear back. any ideas appreciated. regards, jeff c. watts  hi jeff, i noticed update released , i'm afraid have not seen issue before. considering issue happened on vmware vms, there may related vmware. since have launched cas

hi, i have customer single 2012 domain controller in site , multiple clients. dc protected local firewall depending on network profile detected (private, public, domain). each time server rebooted, network card detects profile "public" therefore enabling firewall. suspect when network location awareness running @ startup, domain services not yet running, therefore choosing wrong "public" profile. disabling network card , afterwards enabling again, cause profile change correct setting of "domain". does have quick fix problem, dont have our customer, each time reboots dc? bying second domain controller, not option, if best practice. kind regards sune ratgen think solved it, setting service "network location awareness" delayed start. kind regards sune ratgen Windows Server  >

tengo un servidor windows server 2003 que no esta en dominio sino en grupo de trabajo y tiene algunos usuarios locales dados de alta. de pronto ya no deja a los usuarios conectarse los recursos, al tratar de conectarse les aparece "error de inicio de sesión nombre de usuario desconocido o contraseña incorrecta", incluso con la cuenta de administrador. se puede accesar al servidor por consola y por escritorio remoto pero no los recursos de red. ojala alguien pueda comentar como se soluciona esto sin reiniciar el equipo. gracias de antemano. i attempting apply permissions services using security configuration , analysis snap in on couple 2008 enterprise servers.  used following procedure on of 2008 servers , works fine- open mmc, add security templete snapin, create, modify , save template.  add security , configuration snap in, apply template, , select analyze now.  analysis completes, when select system services, right pane empty.  have tried multiple templates , databases, no luck.  after analysis complete right pane shows looks log file , @ end says warning 2: system cannot find file specified. long shot worth mentioning-i found old 2000 kb (321933) article says if don't have permissions services, happen.  local admin on machine, machine part of cluster , wondering maybe if cluster controlling service , therefor blocking prerequisite of having permissions services.  anyway, nothing since supposedly fixed 2000 sp4 far i've found. any appreciated

in environment have child domain, , in child domain have 1 domain controller. domain controller in child domain tombstoned because unable communicate extended period of time. want delete child domain, should delete old dc , child domain or should go path of trying re-enable replication resolving tombstoned issue? hi varaten, you can't "fix" tombstoned domain controller. should proceed manually remove orphaned domain described here . cheers, lain Windows Server  >  Directory Services
