hi we have folder structure want copy robocopy. parent folder in structure set not inherit permissions. has custom security permissions , folders within set inherit, permissions parent.  robocopy creates destination folder sets inherit permissions. causes child folders have wrong permissions.  the work around we've found create parent folder on destination hand , set permissions, given number of permissions, i'd find solution. we're using "robocopy c:\shares\myfolder '\\otherserver\c$\shares\myfolder' /sec /z /e" the structure this; c:\ - shares -- myfolder <- set not inherit permissions. ---- lots of sub folders any ideas why might ? olly i think if create myfolder @ destination, , remove inheritance, perform copy, should fine. should put security on myfolder you. i've used /copyall instead of /sec take attributes , security across. hope helps mcts, mcse 2000/2003, mcsa 2000/2003, cna

i upgraded windows 2000 dc windows 2008r2. after demotion of windows 2000 dc changed ip address in new dc has used. restarted , went fine. i raised domain level, renamed new dc, restarted server , went wrong. i tried open active directory snap-in can't able connect domain controllers. when see adsi edit , checked domain controller objects, domain controller name remains same old. dc holding new name , effected. i have restored 2000 dc back. since have migrated other services in hard way 2008 dc, still remains on seperate vlan, possible can trouble shoot or change domain controller container objects in safe way on schema? need tips , tricks. thanks. is possible - my question? it's difficult answer question because don't know services , applications have running, procedures move/migrate specific applications , services have installed (need contact vendor specific info see how it's supposed done), errors seeing, etc. as general suggestion, can suggest t

we've 4 node windows 2003 file share cluster. logged onto 1 of nodes , found there lot of san connected disks show 'unallocated' in disk management below, please advice if these disks unused? , reclaimable? heard adminstrator that, default behavior of cluster , in use different node on same cluster. if so, there easier way identify nodes using these disks? since appears though these disks mapped server not being used, many thanks. as expected. things bit clearer in current versions of windows server, in 2003 days, how shared disk shown on nodes did not own disk.  if go each node in cluster , @ same thing in each node, have same number of disks.  on node owns disk, see represented expect.  on nodes not own disk, see displayed have shown in screen shot. . : | : . : | : . tim Windows Server  >

hello, i have issue have large shares on file server have grown on 5tb in size. backing these shares taking on 3 days because have 45-50 million files on them. i thinking since file servers windows server 2008 r2 create large .vhd (5+tb) each share, mount disk , move migrate shares each .vhd file. when backup kicks off, .vhd file backed i'm thinking should decrease backup time significantly. does sound right or there better way? cannot split share since using dfs link point target share.   hi, it maybe not idea. backup purpose should increase performance, but as becomes single file, if vhd file damaged, lose data inside. whether using incremental backup on large shares? should quicker full backup. technet subscriber support in forum |if have feedback on our support, please contact tnmff@microsoft.com. i've searched high , low have not yet found answer problem. i have 2 server 2012 physical machines hooked in a cluster. the 2 machines running remote desktop virtualization host & hyper-v roles. i have server 2012 machine running in cluster hosted vm. server runs remote desktop connection broker and licencing server. this works fine. the problem add remote desktop session host role 2 physical machines. unfortunately errors out during 2nd reboot when installing role. i have turned on rds logging rdmsui_tracing  environment variable , enabling debug logging under "applications , services logs\microsoft\windows\rdms-ui\debug" in event log.  i'm getting no log files in c:\windows\logs\. the error of is: component rdmsui: failed fetch local db connection string server: <server running in vm (rdcb+rdls)>.<domain>: system.management.automation.remoteexception: property dbconnstring not exist @ path hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\s

i know there few forums this, need help, it's way more stuffed started out be. ok, earlier today got windows xp professional x64. i tried first installing on brothers computer (previously had windows 7 x64 installed). brother backed-up needed, restarted computer, hit enter on boot disk option, waited load, selected install, deleted previous partition, , made clean install on new partition. installation fine. once had finished, computer restarted (as normal) once got boot disk command, read "disk read error", though still boot disk, making possible re-do again (fresh install, , whatever) repair. first off tried repair, had never tried repairing computer before, had never needed to, left not knowing ____ had in command menu. so restarted computer, done fresh install half several times, every time disk boot error appeared. came onto computer (the 1 i'm using right now) , searched error, , found site. though looking through old threads (not realising) , tried out of thing
