Mounting a .vhd as a drive

hello,

i have issue have large shares on file server have grown on 5tb in size.

backing these shares taking on 3 days because have 45-50 million files on them.

i thinking since file servers windows server 2008 r2 create large .vhd (5+tb) each share, mount disk , move migrate shares each .vhd file. when backup kicks off, .vhd file backed i'm thinking should decrease backup time significantly.

does sound right or there better way? cannot split share since using dfs link point target share.

hi,

it maybe not idea. backup purpose should increase performance, but as becomes single file, if vhd file damaged, lose data inside.

whether using incremental backup on large shares? should quicker full backup.
