Dead Win2008 R2 Hyper-V host, how to rescue my VM's?

hi all

of course, had happen - after last patch tuesday, 1 of win2008 r" servers wouldn't boot.

i tried everything, without fixboot , other utilities earlier os'es - well, cut short, had

to re-install win2008. have have bunch of virtual machines on e: disk, , sorely them

running in new server. how?

obviously, cannot import them since not exported in first place. if matter of vhd, just

create new vm , attach vhd, of them have snapshots.

i must admit, bit flummoxed here: ability import vm's without prior export seems me must.

after all, not of receives divine warning our host fail, , should export immediately...

edit: there perhaps way merge snapshots , vhd?

hi!

you can merge snapshots using edit disk wizard, found in hyper-v manager. if edit avhd file, wizard recognize differencing disk , allow merged base vhd. suggest copy vhd , avhd files before attempting this, since multiple snapshot may rely on each other, and possibly merged in specific order.

you can check out brians blog on how manually merge snapshots:

http://itproctology.blogspot.com/2008/06/how-to-manually-merge-hyper-v-snapshots.html

this can done, since have files intact.
