Migrate DNS from 2003 R2 (No AD DS) to 2008 R2 with AD DS
here's quick background. we're moving off novell , onto 2008 r2 ad ds dns using 3 dcs. 3 dcs are running dns. we're running primary , secondary dns server on win 2003 r2 without ad ds.
the old dns continue run until users have been migrated ad, can't use ip, nor want to. should have dcs point old ip in case, names dcs can't resolve right now. want transfer dns zones from 2003 r2 server new dcs. during novell ad migration, there won't zone replication between the 2003 r2 dns , new dcs.
what's best way can accomplish this? i've read numerous articles past fews days, have not found related moving dns zones 2003 r2 non-ad ds 2008 r2 ad ds dns.
what recommend have dns zones managed on new dcs , ad-integrated.
to achieve that, can proceed following:
- configure secondary dns zones on 1 of dcs: take copy of zone @ step
- convert secondary dns zones created ad-integrated ones
- convert primary dns zones on old dns server secondary dns zones , set new dcs primary dns servers
after that, dns updates need done on domain controllers , synchronized old dns server: applicable dynamic , static dns record updates.
if reasons cannot that, can have dcs holding dns secondary zones moment , proceed mentioned once migration done.
