Error found by AD replication status tool, how do I fix this?

my windows server environment experiencing various odd symptoms after decommissioned forest's first server.  (it 10 years old, time go before died).  i had moved essential network services other servers, , followed procedures found on technet moving ad roles other servers before decommissioning.

i downloaded , ran ad replication status tool, having troubles seemed ad related.  the tool reports 1 error, says "failed collect data against node xxx.xxx.org", , "domain controller xxx.xxx.org not exist or not contacted."

i subsequently found lot of entries in dns servers pointed server had been decommissioned, , static ip entries on servers pointed server.  after fixing these, ad seems functioning fine.  in fact, log on server xxx.xxx.org says, of 5 pm yesterday

"all problems preventing updates active directory database have been cleared. new updates active directory database succeeding. net logon service has restarted."

so can't find problem pointing ad problem longer, yet ad replication status tool still insists xxx.xxx.org has problems.  what steps can take discover why tool can't communicate server, running?

i forgot add, use replication status tool, , much. have 1 customer 8 sites had numerous replication problems, due basl , admins manually creating zones left , right. found 23 duplicates. after disabling basl, creating specific site links each site hub remote location, allowing istg , kcc job , propagate few hours, worked well. , used replication status tool verify that. if see shows in red, hunt down , fix issue.

i agree awinish old fashioned , use repadmin , other tools, i've found replication status tool priceless because gives me visual of whole infrastructure.
