Setup Virtual Network - Can't Ping Between Host and VM

hi,

i'm new hyper-v, , networking, etc, but, have question:

i set windows 8 on home pc.  created vm using hyper-v windows 8 well.  note not have domain, etc on home network.  i'm not sure if part of issue here....  bottom line want connectivity between host pc , vm, but, can't seem working.

my host pc's ip 192.168.1.5, , vm ip 192.168.137.10.

when set virtual network, set internal.  i'm under assumption these 2 networks can't communicate because on different networks (192.168.1.x vs 192.168.137.x).....

any suggestions or recommendations appreciated!

thanks.

hi,

there 3 types of network in hyper-v: internal, external, , private.

a private virtual network logical, isolated, network segment within hyper-v , not bound physical network adaptor. means vm-to-vm network communication occurs connected private virtual network. kind of network can’t communicate hyper-v host external physical network, it’s not related hyper-v host physical nic.

an internal virtual network similar private virtual network in not bound physical network adaptor. however, primary difference internal virtual network management os participate, resulting in vm-to-management os , vm-to-vm network communication.

how hyper-v achieve that? when create internal network, hyper-v create virtual network adapter in hyper-v host server, default it’s assigned 192.168.137.* subnet. if vm has ip in same subnet, communication established between virtual network adapter , vm.

unlike private or internal virtual network, external virtual network bound physical nic way of miniports may exist in form of multiple miniports single physical nic, single miniport representing multiple physical nics, or single miniport representing single physical nic.

when create external network, should assign physical nic. after create external network, system create virtual network adapter, replace position of assigned physical nic in physical network. instead, physical nic hosts microsoft virtual network switch protocol, it’s running network switch.

so if use external network, , assign ip in same subnet hyper-v host , vms, can establish communication between them.
