Rename SQL Server virtual name (and impact on VCO)?
i posted in sql server ha group, haven't had luck getting responses there. i'm thinking list might more appropriate....
need come way rename 1 of our sql server 2008 virtual names. sql server instance part of 2 node windows server 2008 r2 failover cluster. according microsoft (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms178083.aspx), steps required rename sql server network name , take resource offline , bring online. guess i'm little confused @ how vco comes play here. aforementioned article makes no mention of that. i'm assuming 1 needs create new vco computer account , grant cno account full control. should done prior renaming network name? has attempted before?
thanks

i tried on test cluster. in services , application, select application sql server. in summary window, right click on resource under "server name" listed current name. right click , select properties. change entry "dns name" name want. click apply. resource taken offline change - after warning dialog.
i'll have wait , see if propagates. i'm able connect both names on node. old name still works on client. seems changing cname me.
