Strategies for docked Surface Pro 3 client backup?

surface pro 3, when docked, full desktop pc replacement in ways. however, there 1 issue have found troublesome when using surface windows server 2012 r2 essentials client backup: connected standby.

because surface uses sleep system similar tablet or smartphone ("connected standby"), normal windows power management rules apparently don't apply. pertinently: requests keep machine awake backups or other long-running operations ignored, meaning client backup on surface never completes successfully.

it possible disable connected standby via registry or indirectly enabling client hyper-v, in case "regular" laptop s3 sleep state not available, hibernation, makes using device tablet more unwieldy. possible change sleep timeout ac power arbitrarily long time, hoping more elegant solution.

i realize surface pro 3 issue, can't 1 trying backup surface pro 3 using windows server. have experience or advice on how they've handled this?
