How to link excel data to word without changing the format of the document

this convoluted process, best have.

i have preprinted forms - these not under control , cannot change them.  there multiple fields on forms have filled out.   there no template forms, normally, done old fashioned way on typewriter.  given "template" form in word 2010, using text boxes fields have filled out.  rather filling in text boxes, have been trying link them data entered excel file, 2010.  link works great , simplifies task data changes every , then, however, cannot link maintain formatting in word document.  excel throws in carriage returns, though selecting "link , use destination styles" when link data.  causes data move out of field area on preprinted form.   can fix deleting carriage returns, happens throughout document every time updates.

is there way link without carriage returns, maintaining location of entered data?

when linking data, try using 'unformatted text' link option. way, word's own style formatting applied.

cheers
