Software Raid for windows server

i running server 2008 r2 , have several hdd's installed of various sizes. had toyed whs , 1 thing liked ability add hdd's storage pool. there way in 2008 without using extend partition option in disk management. have read, seems option may riskier keeping data on 1 drive. under impression if 1 drive fails fail. set extended partition mirror well? drives need identical (at point be) scenario? whs's storage pool idea had advantage of adding sized, branded hdd pool , allowing other drives used backup information. also, 1 final note, of drives sata couple ide , connected through different controller cards hardware raid not option.

hi,

it seems have disks various size(such 80gb, 100gb…), , want know whether can configure software raid hard disks windows server 2008 r2. if misunderstand concern, please feel free let me know.

if so, answer yes. not familiar windows home sever, however, can configure software raid various size of hard disks. please note disk size of raid base on minimum size of disk. example, use 2 disks(one 80gb, 100gb) configure raid 0, disk size of raid 0 80 + 80, not 80 + 100, waste 20gb’s disk space.

best regards,

vincent hu
