Setting up users to access a file server

hi,

use novell file server 50 users.  bought hp x1600 storageworks (windows storage 2008 r2) , intend use file server in work group environment (no domain).  i'm new microsoft stuff. know can set share drive , let users map it, want know there other ways can set users sign in (more novell) server , access personal folders accordingly (more client/server).  comments appreciated.

thanks,

tee

hi tee,

i assume share folder in drive e users.

as not domain environment, need manually assign permission share folders under shared folder (one user). cause time so.

in order save time, can unselect "replace child object permissions inheritable permissions object" option in security tab of father folder. users can create sub-folders , manually add permission if not share folder public.

in addition, can have on page:

how enable access-based enumeration distributed file system (dfs) share in windows server 2008

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/961658

access-based enumeration (abe) can hides files , folders users not have permission access. new feature in windows 2008.

tip: if control settings, create domain may an efficient option.
