Drive letter and mount points before cluster creation
scenario:
win2k8r2 failover cluster 2 nodes.
storage available san.
witness: mns share on file server
i'm creating sql 2008 r2 cluster uses mount points.
is nessesary following before can create cluster , add disks:
node 1: bring disk online in disk management
node 1: ensure disk has appropriate drive letter, , can access disk/files
node 1: bring disk offline in disk management
node 2: bring disk online in disk management
node 2: ensure disk has appropriate drive letter, , can access disk/files
node 2: bring disk offline in disk management
i'm told if don't ensure disk has appropriate drive letter , mount points before add cluster, can trouble.
the disk(s) must formatted (ntfs). drive letters since clustering pick them , make them available across cluster.
you need bring disk(s) online on 1 node formatting. not matter node. can change drive letters , mount points on node , information propagates clusterwide.
under windows 2003/2003r2, mountpoints had done on individual node basis. windows 2008/2008r2 moved mountpoint data cluster registry persistent across nodes.
