DHCP shows pending update icon
hello,
i have environment 2 dhcp/ dns/ dcs. 1 server 2003 r2 , other 2008 r2. have server server 2003 dns/ dc.
there multiple dhcp scopes corresponding different client sites (each different subnet).
i have followed ace's instructions here: http://blogs.msmvps.com/acefekay/2009/08/20/dhcp-dynamic-dns-updates-scavenging-static-entries-amp-timestamps-and-the-dnsproxyupdate-group/
i have applied changes 2 servers have dns/dc/dhcp roles.
i'm seeing strange behavior. leases have pen icon (pending update).there pcs names not appear in 'name' column when looking @ address leases section of each scope. these have correct dhcp icon next ip address. it's pcs have name have 'pending update icon'. is there reason , fact pcs names not appearing in dhcp lease list registering in dns?
to resolve 'pending update' issue, have started creating reverse lookup zones per : http://blogs.technet.com/b/networking/archive/2008/12/09/dhcp-shows-the-pending-update-icon-even-after-the-a-record-is-added-to-dns.aspx
in testing 1 remote subnet, found after created reverse zone, deleted current records pcs in subnet , removed dhcp leases, short while later, pcs register own dns , ips not turn in dhcp lease list. dns records not have dhcp credentials account created owner. presume expected pcs have not released , renewed ips?
thanks,
ha
hi ha,
>>is there reason , fact pcs names not appearing in dhcp lease list registering in dns?
when lease generated, dhcp register both record , ptr record client.(if dhcp server configured perform registration) if dns server doesn't has reverse lookup zone, dhcp failed update ptr record.
>> i presume expected pcs have not released , renewed ips?
yes. understanding correct. please try release ip address by ipconfig /release first.
best regards.
