LDAP for Outlook without Exchange??

may seem strange question - possible use active directory "check names" feature in outlook 2003?

our company switching mail servers - , mail server switching not provide ldap functionality - thinking configure our outlook 2003 clients use ad ldap user lookup (assuming of users have email address populated).

maybe bad assumption.  went through , added address book connect our ad , getting ldap referral received.  maybe doing wrong.  maybe don't have enabled in ad needs be?

any or suggestions appreciated

thanks

sb

thanks, needed.  ldap referral received cause improper search...usually incorrect dc or distiguished name.

this appears issue: search base = cn=users,dc=mydomaincontroller,dc=mydomain,dc=com

do not include mydomaincontroller, not part of distiguished name needed search base.

correct: cn=users,dc=mydomain,dc=com

however, above search users container, if users in ou's should use this

dc=mydomain,dc=com
