Dual Monitor option on RDWEB (2008 RDGateway, 2003 RDHost Server)

greetings!

i have setup windows 2008 r2 remote desktop services gateway server , have configured remote desktop web access services well. not using 2008 server remote desktop host. connecting windows 2003 rdp host. connection works either through mstsc or via rdweb (the web interface.)

three questions:

1) in order of services enabled, remote desktop host on 2008 enabled well. since connecting 2003 remote desktop, can disable remote desktop host service on 2008? main reason doing configuration to avoid having buy terminal server licences 2008 since using terminal server 2003 licenses.

2) when connect mstsc /span 2003 rdp server and enter remote desktop gateway information, connect , have dual monitor capability. when connect through rdweb have no way of controlling dual monitor capability. connects 2003 server, single monitor. is there text file or other setting can change control function?

3) when testing connection outside of network , using mstsc /span , the remote desktop gateway fqdn when enter address of 2003 rd host ip, seems take longer connect opposed entering name of server. expect other way more accurate. normal?

thanks!

hi,

for first question, if want disable remote desktop session host role in windows server 2008 r2, have uninstall rd session host role.

the windows terminal server 2008 cals still work windows terminal server 2003 users. if number of users connecting through windows 2003 ts fixed , equal existing cal count can buy windows 2008 ts cals rest of users. , if number of users connecting ts not fixed, there no harm in getting cals upgraded windows server 2008.

also, migration of terminal licensing server 1 machine other, these post you.

for second question,  in experience, cannot using /span connect  to terminal server via rd webaccess.

you can refer article:

using multiple monitors in remote desktop session

for third question, if take long time logon, please check event log see if error information. if logon without /span, whether same issue still exists.
