Joining new servers (hw) to an existing Windows 2003 cluster (old hw)

hello,

i have old hardware running windows 2003 , two-node sql cluster.  database off of old hardware, have built 2 new blades windows 2003 , have had storage attached sql.  last thing join 2 new nodes old cluster , have the dba configure db on new cluster.

my first question be, work?  possible add 2 new blades old existing cluster running on old hardware?  hw platforms not same.

are there steps can take ahead of time make smoother transition?

any appreciated.

thanks,

j

hi,

the new setup propose seems fine.

i propose when ready switch new cluster setup, first disconnect (unmask) storage old cluster nodes , re-mask new nodes. upon successful completion re-masking can import disks cluster disks , continue per normal.

some advice, if using mpio may need migrate mpio software config file (should 1 exist) prior starting new cluster node.

and of course, backup, backup, , did mention backup!!! in case goes wrong!

best of luck it!

martin
