New updates are not being downloaded (WSUS @ Windows Server 2012)

i have installed new windows server 2012 wsus, created new gpo, configured , assigned new ou, put few computer objects ou, configured automatic approvals etc.

the problem approved updates not being downloaded internet message: "the files update have not yet been downloaded".

is there way find out why? know takes time download approved updates in case 1 month updates haven't been downloaded yet.

in thread found similar question answered following suggestions (my comments in bold below):

review application event log on wsus server determine reason(s) blocked download.

there no error messages in application event log

the 5 common causes, in order of likelihood, are:

1. firewall/proxy/router between wsus server , internet not support http v1.1 protocol specification, particularly respect range protocol header, required bits faciliate downloads.

we have proxy server between wsus server , internet proxy shouldn't problem since updates being downloaded successfully.

2. content store contained on volume other system volume , network service account not have *read* permissions on root of volume.

the content store located on c: drive

3. quotas have been implemented on wsus server , blocking ability of bits write filestore.

we don't have quotas implemented

4. wsus server not configured use required proxy server (although, typically, scenario blocks synchronization content downloads).

5. firewall blocking outbound access, or file downloading, on port 80.

again, updates appear in list of new updates of them downloaded. highly unlikely proxy problem.

the problem approved updates not being downloaded internet message: "the files update have not yet been downloaded".

we need make distinction between seemingly pedantic point of... "are not being downloaded" (which means they're failing download) , "have not been downloaded" (which means download still proceeding not fast you've expected occur). there's no real information presented here updates "are not being downloaded".

is there way find out why? know takes time download approved updates in case 1 month updates haven't been downloaded yet.

  • how many updates did approve?
  • are values count of updates , bytes download changing on console?

if downloads failing, download failure logged in application event log.

there no error messages in application event log

then downloads not failing, previous questions become key:

  • how many updates did approve?
  • how many service packs did approve?
  • how many updates waiting downloaded?
  • how many gigabytes waiting downloaded?

we have proxy server between wsus server , internet proxy shouldn't problem since updates being downloaded successfully.

this critically defective assumption. in fact, particular defect updates do, in fact, download -- until big ones cannot, , clogs download queue. of course, if proxy server causing problem, downloads failing , have download failures logged in appeventlog. lack of failures suggests it's slow, question becomes: why slow?

in combination above questions ....

  • how internet bandwidth have?
  • how many systems sharing bandwidth?
