Recommended configuration for Heartbeat/Private network in Windows 2008 R2


folks,

i sure question has been asked before , apologise, if case cannot find info anywhere.

i setting failover clustering on windows 2008 r2. know recommendations heartbeat/private network are.

all can find these windows 2003 articles.

there practice rules (since ws2000, ws03) still can apply private cluster network on ws08 , r2, such as:

1.advanced tcp/ip settings
wins-no wins, netbios setting-disable netbios on tcp/ip
dns-no dns-do not register address in dns
ip settings-no gateway-only ip address , subnet mask
uncheck file , printer sharing microsoft networks
uncheck client microsoft networks.

2.cross-over cables between 2 nodes can used (teaming not supported redundancy recommended). network latency less 500 ms commonly accepted. public network subnets should not used here.

3.adpater
link speed , duplex-avoid using auto negotiation
power management-uncheck.

4.adapters & bindings (order)
public network
private network.
