SMB Issues with R2 and Win3.11 for Workgroups

all,

i have noticed issues when updating our domain controllers windows 2008 r2. seems our old devices connect domain/workgroup via windows 3.11 workgroups experincing errors when establishing connections domain. machines athenticating agaisnt windows 2008 r2 machines having issue. windows 2008 x64 dc's dont have problem.

the issue in wireshark showing following error code when device attempts connect: "trans reponsem, error: request unsupported, returned win 95"

when testing same client windows 2008 x64 dc error not shown in wireshark....

we have set allow ntlm on windows 2008 via group policy setting: lmcompatibilitylevel =0

anyone else had issues connecting windows 2008 r2 dc windows 3.11 or windows 95 device... potentinally effect windows 7 smb linux file shares well.. .

any ideas???

i'm troubleshooting exact same issue.

after installing 1 new dc r2, our win95 clients cannot login anymore, , "this request not supported network"

i can work around editing local lmhosts file point dc < 2008 r2.

the same error occurs when doing net view \\w2008srv (a fileserver), not "only" logon/authentication related.

i have tried changing restricted ntlm security, far without luck.

did find solution?
