Cannot Create Share on Cluster if Dedup is enabled

we discovered nasty problem on our fileservers running windows server 2012 r2 in failover cluster:

is there known issue describes following problem?

we can not create new shares using cluster administator or using powershell if deduplication enabled on volume.

it possible create shares without troubles on volumes without deduplication enabled (clustered , local).

all efforts lead error message: error 50, "the request not supported"

i found error message same or without gui in microsoft-windows-wmi-activity/operational log:

log name:      microsoft-windows-wmi-activity/operational
source:        microsoft-windows-wmi-activity
date:          5/12/2016 10:14:13 pm
event id:      5858
task category: none
level:         error
keywords:
user:          system
computer:      aaa
description:
id = {be6a153c-5792-4316-bcf7-f090ad9b31aa}; clientmachine = aaa; user = uuu; clientprocessid = 7512; component = provider; operation = start iwbemservices::execmethod - root\microsoft\windows\smb : msft_smbshare::createshare; resultcode = 0x8004100c; possiblecause = unknown

thankfully there workaround: still possible create share using explorer gui.

any ideas? there hotfix this?

hi tom,

thanks post.

>we can not create new shares using cluster administator or using powershell if deduplication enabled on volume.

does work deduplication disabled?

according error 50 , event  5858, both indicates " the request not supported"

as far know, in windows server 2012r2 failover cluster, there 3 smb share: smb share-quick, smb share-advanced, smb share-application.

i think possible cause 1 of smb shares have configured before since shows error "the requested operation not supported". please try reproduce issue, check event log see if can find information. after that, check cluster log according time.

you can find how generate logs following blog:
how troubleshoot create cluster failures in windows server 2012

in addition, since in cluster environment, suggest discussed in our cluster forum more support. support , understanding.
