What makes Word application to behave as WebDAV client and to which extend it can be configured?

hi all,

i trying understand makes microsoft word (office 2007) behave differently when used view/edit document files placed in folder located under web application (http://w2008r2/webapp/documents/document1.docx). different behavior has been noticed word when installed on windows xp professional other installed on windows 7.

in both cases word used open/change document file placed on web server of windows 2008 r2 system within folder of web application configured used trough webdav. file permissions of targeted folder (and files within) set full access non administrator group (writers) , webdav authoring , authorization settings set accordingly. windows authentication used (anonymous access disabled) in non domain environment. relevant users created on client machines match 1 created on server. group writers exists on server , used configuration of files , folders users consume files trough webdav. confident described environment solid - worked several months without problems on server side.

however, on client side there problems depending on operating system on word 2007 application run. while windows xp users can edit/view files documents folder (from server) windows 7 users experienced problems when tried save changed server or when tried save document under different name (save as); , there 1 problem common system related locking - document remain locked until application restarted, problem has not been identified (it can not reproduced, happens sometimes).

every client has requested editing of documents using following command line

winword http://w2008r2/webapp/documents/document1.docx

when started in way, word webdav client , lock document when open in edit mode.

most of described things found on experiment basis , took great deal of time.

i wold know there article (or group of articles) describe client side of word application when used webdav client, specially descriptions , configuration of parameters can affected improve user experience.

i great known there list of prerequisites/requirements word application in order operate webdav client?
