Virtual File Server Disappears after a few hours
not sure if should go here or in file server forum.
we migrated our network shares virtual (hyper-v) file server.
and randomly after few hours server disappears.
(can not access start->run-> \\servername)
however, can still ping server, , remote desktop it.
all event logs clean, both on parent server , virtual file server.
to fix, restart virtual file server, nothing else.
but shares/server disappear anywhere little 2 hours as 12.
this brand new dell poweredge 2950-iii 16gb ram , 2 quad-core xeon 2.33 cpus.
the parent server running win2008 standard 64bit,
and running hyper-v roll, nothing else.
the file server running win2008 standard 64bit,
and running file server roll dfs (though no replication partners yet) publish share ad.
the other software installed on 2 machines symantec endpoint protection 11.
and using anti-virus feature (network intrusion, etc... disabled.
it did not make difference when trying access via \\servername\sharename or \\domainname.com\sharename.
any appreciated, old server coming out of lease , needs go soon.
thanks,
chris

even network intrusion feature disabled on both systems, suggest disable symantec endpoint protection 11 there known issue between symantec endpoint protection 11 , windows server.
windows servers stop accepting network connections symantec endpoint protection 11.0 installed

windows server 2008 network shares become unresponsive symantec endpoint protection 11 or symantec antivirus 10.2 client installed , auto-protect enabled
if issue continues, please create share folder on parent os , try visit client. fqdn , ip address. please let me know detailed error message.
at same time, suggest try analyze detailed network packages when trying visit file server. please download , install microsoft network monitor 3.2 on server.
