"bootmgr is missing" message when using Windows Server 2008R2 evaluation vhd file
i attempting run new virtual server on server 2008 r2. downloaded full version complete image of enterprise evaluation vhd file , followed these instructions vhd evalulation image download page:
- on computer, install windows server 2008 or windows server 2008 r2 ,
microsoft hyper-v. detailed instructions on how install latest version of
microsoft hyper-v can found here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/virtualization/install.mspx - download files required. there 2 different images (windows server
200 r2 enterprise full installation , windows server r2 enterprise server core
installation), , 2 ways download them based on current internet
connection – see image selection section below further
information. - when have installed hyper-v , extracted vhd files, copy vhd
file pre-selected location (recommended default location
c:\users\public\documents\microsoft hyper-v\virtual hard disks) - open hyper-v manager. click start, point administrative tools, ,
click hyper-v manager. - from action pane, click new, , click virtual machine.
- from new virtual machine wizard, click next.
- on specify name , location page, specify want name
virtual machine , want store it. (you can keep default
location ease). - on memory page, specify enough memory run guest operating system
want use on virtual machine (recommendation @ least 2gb). - on networking page, connect network adapter existing virtual
network if want establish network connectivity @ point. - on connect virtual hard disk page, select “use , existing virtual hard
disk”, , browse location copied vhd file in step 3
above. - select finish (you can start vhd @ time, recommend
create snapshot before start vhd first time).
unfortunately, when try start virtual server, selecting in hyper-v interface open , choosing start option, error "bootmgr missing".
since not creating virtual disk scratch or importing installation, not sure steps fix this. appreciated.
