RDS 2012 R2 - Renaming Collection / Custom Icon Observations

hi all

today i've noted following when collection renamed through rds server manager:

  • the icon folder store on collection broker servers (ha) c:\windows\remotepackages\cpubfarms\<collectionname> doesn't change original name.
  • the collection name registry keys living [hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\terminal server\centralpublishedresources\publishedfarms\<collectionname> remain original collection name.
  • reboots not force synchronisation.
  • if either registry key or folders mentioned above renamed manually, within approx 10 minutes rds renames them (or creates fresh copies) using collection name used upon collection creation - not using new name!

1.  is there way synchronise these?

2.  can powershell used rename session collection?

i spotted cmdlet: set-rdsessioncollectionconfiguration there appears no way of entering both old , new collection names should wish rename collection, implies properties can modified, not name.

3. can collection , attributes , applications copied new collection?

custom icons

i'm unsure how iconpath variable used within cmd: set-rdremoteapp -collectionname "<mycollectionname>" -alias "myappalias" -iconpath ""

-iconpath<string>

specifies path file containing icon display remoteapp program identified the alias parameter. path must not contain environment variables. session collections, path must valid local path on rd session host servers in collection. virtual desktop collections, path must valid local path on virtual desktops in collection.

the reason i'm confused if point -iconpath icon doesn't have same name app alias, powershell copy icon c:\windows\remotepackages\cpubfarms\<collectionname> and rename such does.  however get-rdremoteapp -alias "<myappalias>" | fl shows iconpath reflecting original icon file, not 1 rds has created using same name app's alias.

rd web displays icon correctly , can confirm icon rds creates using same name app alias  is 1 being used (not 1 pointed iconpath) renaming , watching disappear rdweb.

1.  if iconpath doesn't match icon rds using display, (if any) consequences?

2.  what's actual purpose of iconpath?

3.  to align iconpath actual .ico rds using display (which me sounds logical), should create multiple icons original source named using each app alias, store here: c:\windows\remotepackages\cpubfarms\<collectionname>\myappalias.ico  and register iconpath with c:\windows\remotepackages\cpubfarms\<collectionname>\myappalias.ico

4.  is iconpath used once when powershell script run - therefore maybe has no relevance after?

questions question know!

thanks pointers...

hi lea,

collection’s name doesn’t update in case, too, have rebooted rds servers within rds deployment.

let’s see whether update later.

best regards,

amy
