NTFS Security Permissions Ownership etcetera

here's stupid question in know...

i'm having tons of issues couple of wd passport external usb drives... here's quick descriptive;

i use these drives store media family pics, videos, media center recordings, music etc originate on one/more computers , wish access one/more computers...

i invariable novice in front of family every time access denied window , have go through several clicks gain control , continue whatever task had started.

so, here's (potentially) stupid question;

what point of introducing these lame , unpredictable (by average user) security hurtles when can overridden , rendered mere speed bumps?

based on rational above, why isn't there quick (and easy) way strip security nonsense , make external drive friggen work?

i'm sure must missing something, haven't been able find clear answer this quandary.... if have one, i'd appreciate enlightenment!

cheers!

... ms rocks!

i'm not sure rationale, here's food thought.

the external hdd picks security settings computer.

when move external hdd computer, generic name: "everyone" might have full access, i'm betting sids different.  that's why have reset security settings.

if can find xp machine, should able format hdd fat32 , remove security external hdd.

btw, seeing know how change security settings, doubt family questioning leetness.
