DFS do-over

i've inherited single-domain(win'03r2) using dfs(domain, not standalone) strictly naming-ease (no repl.)...currently there's a single root, need add another, getting road-blocked.

the problem dfs seems sadly misconfigured such can't create new roots/links on 1 server configured dfs , other servers won't let me see existing dfs config via mmc.

i rather rip out existing dfs config roots , build nice & clean since there's nothing lose, hoping there's out there who's mastered technique , willing share experince ?

assuming there's bit tweak in both registry , adsiedit, comfortable proper guidance :)

thx in advance !

thx, ~~robb

it discovered dc having schema(and other fsmo) roles had it's nic swapped, , tho nic re-config'd w/ proper ip-address, option register connection in dns wasn't enabled sid(?)-entry in dns under _msdcs.[internal domain name], never registered.

there other tips came across best-practices such as;

  • network connections -> advanced settings -> binding order (move perferred connection to top)
  • network connections -> advanced settings -> provider order (move non-ms provides bottom)

once cleaned up, dfs playing nice again :)

thx, ~~robb
