the old server running 2 raid1 arrays (one o/s , 1 data) , server 2008 r2. there no exchange server running on lone dc , file server. new server 2u rackmount , have 2 raid 1 arrays. thoughts on moving whole setup this:

1) setup 2 raid 1 arrays, install 2008r2 , updates.

2) add new server network , make secondary dc-

3) move data data drive on old server new server either via network or external media.

4) transfer 5 roles:

6) shut off old server , change ip on new match.

better have file server role separate domain controller. if buying 2012 r2 standard license allowed run hyper-v guests. might consider installing hyper-v role on host, stand 2 guest vms 1 dc/dns server, other file server.

something here may help.
