Network/Server Setup for migration from NT 4/2000 to 2008

<yes still using nt 4 , win 2k servers>
ok after laugh, idea moving forward become current (yes know lots of work).

  1. server 1: ad ds, license server, dns
  2. server 2: ad da, dns (secondary), terminal server (3rd in farm, lowest "weight")
  3. servers 3 & 4: terminal servers (farm)
  4. server 5: database server, application server
  5. server 6: database server (they run backups each other in case of of hardware failure)
  6. server 7: file server, print server (probably linux)
  7. server 8: internal web , email

right running nt 4 dc, 1 database (2 databases on it) acts file , application server, 4 terminal servers (2 moderate useage, 2 light... 3 2000 servers 1 2003 server, 1 of light useage ones print server).  this going big jump.  just want see if idea going in right direction, if left out or should other way.

hello,

first of have migrate nt ad. once done, you have upgrade ad ds 2008 / 2008 r2: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731188(ws.10).aspx

once upgraded, can add 2008 / 2008 r2 dcs ad environment.

note in-place upgrade 32 bit os 64 bit os not supported have add additional dcs , make them dns , gc servers , demote old ones.

  1. server 1: ad ds, license server, dns
  2. server 2: ad da, dns (secondary), terminal server (3rd in farm, lowest "weight")

for dcs, don't recommend running ad ds , dns services. other services / applications not recommended run on dcs.

for terminal services questions, ask in terminal server forum: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/winserverts/threads

for sql questions, ask in sql forum: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/category/sqlserver
