My .asd files disappeared - please help!


i have new surface pro. started word document , saved it. when woke , returned file, computer had mysteriously rebooted. opened file , autorecover showed original file had saved, sans work had done. checked autosave preferences, , relieved see set save every ten minutes. when went autosave folder, saw .asd files , found latest 1 , double clicked (a mistake, know, should have right right-clicked open or opened word). asked me if wanted go app store find right file open with, , said yes. realizing mistake, closed ms store application. 

the .asd files gone. not in recycling bin. search .asd files unsuccessful. totally screwed? why did happen? why .asd files illusionist, see them dont?

i tested issue in own environment, opened asd file , stored in original file won’t removed or deleted. normally, typically never used , older asd files removed.

first suggest try recover lost document.

  • search autorecover files
    1. on file menu, click open, , click recent documents.
    2. scroll end of recent documents, , click recover unsaved documents.
    3. if find word document looking for, double-click open it.
  • search word backup files
    1. start word 2013.
    2. click file menu, click open, click computer, , click browse.
    3. locate folder in last saved missing file.
    4. in files of type list (all word documents), click files. backup file has name "backup of" followed name of missing file.
    5. click backup file, , click open.
  • search temporary files
    1. refer method 1 perform search *.tmp files (temporary files).
    2. if not sure file missing file, save .tmp files location.
    3. start word.
    4. click file > open.
    5. browse location saved .tmp files, , click files *.* . if not click files *.*, .tmp files may not displayed.
    6. open .tmp files 1 one.
    7. if find missing file, save immediately.
