AD Integrated DNS Issue: The zone cannot be created. There was a server failure.
i have dev domain has been neglected , needs brought acceptable level. here state of domain before started.
- windows 2003 r1 single domain.
- exchange 2003 sp2 running dc services
- dns installed not configured on the exchange server.
- dc fsmo role holder/dns server crashed , irrecoverable.
here did.
- on exchange server, i recreated domain dns zone and stopped/started the netlogon service the (_msdcs, _sites, etc... folders show up). services on exchange server.
- seized fsmo roles , put them on exchange server.
- went ntdsutil , removed dead domain controller's data ad.
- updated ad schema 2008 and promoted member windows server 2008 r2 server domain controller.
- installed installed dns services on new domain controller. dns zone exchange server replicated new dc , new entries show on both.
- moved fsmo roles new domain controller.
everything point seems fine. run issue when try add reverse zone. dreaded "the zone cannot created. there server failure" error. tried both new dc , exchange server no luck. don't see in event logs jumps out @ me. do, however, notice @ console of dc, can't connect dns service on exchange server. same true reverse.
please let me know if have suggestions.
hello,
as had problems crashed dc please upload:
ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt [from each dc/dns server]
dcdiag /v /c /d /e /s:dcname >c:\dcdiag.txt
repadmin /showrepl dc* /verbose /all /intersite >c:\repl.txt ["dc* place holder starting name of dcs if begin same (if more 1 dc exists)]
dnslint /ad /s "dcipaddress" (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321045)
output become large, don't post them thread, please use windows sky drive (skydrive.live.com) [with open access!] , add link here. /e in dcdiag scans complete forest, better run on cob.
please keep in mind not recommended run exchange on dc, not microsoft.
