New Group Policy Preferences

i having similar issue. guess unclear if new vista/2008 preference policies can run in windows 2003 domain windows xp , vista workstations, long create gpo's on vista machine. after researching, still unsure. when create gpo on vista machine, , try apply preferences policy xp workstation, rsop says applies not see changes @ workstation. can clarify? have rsat , cse's installed on appropriate workstations.

firstly, confirm can use group policy preference introduced along windows server 2008 in windows server 2003 domain environment windows xp clients.

 

in order make gpp take effect, should meet following system requirement:

 

windows server 2003 service pack 1, windows xp service pack 2

in addition, in order ensure group policy preference items can work  windows server 2003 environment , should manage gpp items via either windows server 2008 or gpmc update windows vista service pack 1 , make sure corresponding extensions installed.

if have installed rsat on windows vista service pack 1 , correct version cses on windows xp clients, please advise gpp items define , how define them.

you can refer following steps collect these required information:

 

a. start -> administrative tools -> open "group policy management" console

b. expand , locate problematic gpo

c. right-click on gpo , select "save report…" save report

 

4. also, please run following command line on problematic client collect logs

 

gpresult /z > c:\gpresult.log

 

then may send report , log tfwst@microsoft.com
