Windows Server 2003 locking up - at the end of my rope

i have been trying figure out wrong server year.

this windows 2003 std sp2 server current updates, running on intel dg35ec core2duo e8400 @ 3.00 ghz, 4 gb of ram , realtek rtl8169 gigabit nic. there's nothing special hardware, has 3 physical sata drives, 2 500 gb drives mirrored inside windows, third 750 gb drive, unmirrored.

the server runs small internet mail server running hmailserver, against sql server 2005 enterprise. running assp spam filter, on activestate perl 5.10.1 (multithreaded). runs squirrelmail on iis webmail client (on php 5.2.12).

lastly, runs secondary dns, running bind 9.6.1.

the server well-sized load, , has sufficient headroom , drive space grow substantially beyond current load.

the server run 1 2 weeks consistently, without problems. without warning, in afternoon on weekday (during heaviest load), lock solid: mouse cursor frozen, no drive activity, stopped dead. there never blue screen or indication of kind of error - server stops. when rebooted, comes , commonly run between 2-5 minutes before repeating lockup. when rebooted second time, run week or 2 before happens again. once in while second lockup not occur.

nothing logged when lockups occur, , logs leading lockups not show unusual (i.e. no sudden excessive load or anything).

i first tried replacing ram in server, no change. replaced of hardware exception of hard drives (i.e. duplicated hardware, moved hard drives new server). lockups continued.

i ruling out power or other external influences server located in huge facility thousands of other servers it, , servers not experiencing issues of type.

having ruled out hardware , environmental factors, i'm left software. have read of people have experienced sort of problem sql server, no causes , no solutions ever mentioned.

i'm @ total loss start looking, , i'm wide open suggestions.

 

with hard lockups i'd still have hardware. may need think wasn't replaced down simple things cables, bus terminations, graphics adapter, mobo , device firmware.
